Business profile

Jack Sealey has grown to become one of the largest tool and equipment distributors in the UK; importing goods primarily from China, Taiwan, Korea and Eastern Europe. Sealey provide an extensive range of over 9,500 product lines, including Garage & Workshop, Bodyshop, Agricultural, Janitorial, Engineering and Vehicle Service Tools. They continually strive to introduce new and innovative tools and equipment for the professional, which comply or exceed international standards, never compromising on quality to achieve value for money. Their turnover continues to grow, and in 2017 was £65m.

Products are sold B2B to customers primarily in the UK, although exports are sent to Europe, Africa and further afield. The company started trading 35 years ago from the back of a van, John Sealey sold car jacks door to door to automotive garages. They trade from a 7-acre site in Bury St Edmunds, and currently employ around 350 staff. The current IT project is part of a £10m investment in the organisation to improve IT systems and continue to grow their service centre.

Business challenge

Sealey realised that their outdated ERP software solution managing the company’s inventory data and financial processes wasn’t offering them the flexibility and ease of customisation they needed to meet the changing needs of their business. Sealey suffered from a system that could not interface with new technology, resulting in time-consuming manual processes that hindered worker efficiency and prevented a clear overview of company information. Sealey recognised that they needed to eliminate the plethora of home grown spreadsheets and employ a technology solution that will empower their organisation to meet future challenges and expand business opportunities.

Business solution

Knowing that the timing was right, Sealey engaged QuantiQ to implement Microsoft Dynamics AX2012R3. A solution they knew would provide the core functionality they need – financials, human resources and operations management – to run efficiently, make smart business decisions and streamline their business processes.  By connecting existing data silos and delivering one single view of the business, Sealey are able to surface information through intuitive dashboards and reports.

 

With the data automation functionality and flexible technology platform provided by Microsoft Dynamics AX, Sealey benefited from consolidation of financial analysis and reporting data; reduction in time needed to perform crucial sales and order processes; and in-depth visibility into all stages of a customer’s supply chain. Sealey now have a system that will provide a strong foundation for the analytical needs that they have been missing for so long.
